FASD Task Force Goals &#8211; Select Committee occurring – Beall, explore ways in which the TF can influence Select Committee<br />
MCAH can make recommendations to TF requested<br />
Work with Medical Board/ Malpractice<br />
Review Medical Board policy on alcohol consumption during pregnancy and consequences for doctors that say it is okay<br />
Eva – reports 2008 ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) issued a no alcohol advisory for women during pregnancy<br />
TF members to meet with Select Committee – Parents/self-advocates, Tony, Teresa, Greg, Shirley<br />
Issues to might be topics of discussion for Beall’s Select Committee<br />
Alcohol Mitigation Fee – existing Bill 1019<br />
Screening Reimbursement – existing Bill 217<br />
Medical Board Policy<br />
Medical School Curriculum/ Professional Licensing<br />
Joe – expressed interest in getting women with disabilities information on the dangers of prenatal exposure to alcohol, wants to share information with his chapters and explore ways People First can be active in the TF<br />
FASD Fact Sheet and Brochure<br />
Maria and Eva sent final draft to The Arc of California, Tony agreed to have it printed by December<br />
Billy Edwards is a public Defender in L.A. County working on criminal justice issues related to FASD, he is on the editorial board for The Journal of Psychiatry and Law, request put out for articles for a special issue on FASD.<br />
Greg recommends approaching to Senate Office of Research to inquire about<br />
1) Percent of people in the Corrections System with FASD and the associated costs<br />
2) Medical Board consequences/enforcement for doctors that say it is okay to drink alcohol during pregnancy given that it goes against the surgeon generals warning/ what other states are doing about it<br />
FASD Day<br />
Next year should be a bigger event<br />
Press Release/ follow up calls the day before event<br />
Save the Date Flyers<br />
Give aways, bells with Arc logo, bags, etc<br />
Mini – conference at the Capitol (may under a tent)<br />
Family picnic, sponsors such as Wal-mart<br />
Invite legislators<br />
Items for next meeting<br />
List steps for mini-conference<br />
Look for sponsors<br />
Save the Date Flyer<br />
List of ideas for Select Committee<br />
Follow-up with Legislators to support existing Bills or maybe sponsor something new<br />

<p><strong>The 10th Anniversary of FASD Awareness Day is September 9 , 2009.</strong><br />
In honor of this day Assembly member Jim Beall will join us in recognition of International FASD Awareness Day. Dr. Lyn Laboriel, Director of  the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Center, Violence Intervention Program in Los Angeles will be speaking at the Capitol.  She will speak about the progress we, as Californians, have made in the field and the importance of continuing our mission.  Eva Carner, parent, advocate and educator  will speak about her experiences of parenting a child with FASD.  Rick Nelson, self advocate and educator, will be speaking about his experience of living with FASD. The task force is grateful to our speakers for their time and dedication to the field.  Please join us at the Capitol for this Event. </p>
